Tuesday Apr 16, 2019
The guest host for today's show is Brad Bannon. Brad runs Bannon Communications Research, a polling, message development and media firm which helps labor unions, progressive issue groups and Democratic candidates win public affairs and political campaigns. His new show, 'Deadline D.C. with Brad Bannon,' is every Monday from 3-4pm ET.
Brad is first joined by Katherine Gallagher Robbins, Senior Director of poverty policy for the 'Poverty to Prosperity Program' at the Center for American Progress. Their Twitter handle is @amprog.
The two discuss the new 'Working Families Tax Relief Act,' which was introduced in the U.S. Senate by Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Ron Wyden (D-OR), and Dick Durbin (D-IL), along with 44 co-sponsors. It would expand the earned income tax credit (EITC) and child tax credit (CTC).
They also cover how the recent GOP tax cuts, focused mostly on corporations, have not statistically lived up to how they were described by President Trump and Congressional Republicans.
Brad's second guest is Emily Peterson-Cassin, Project Coordinator for the 'Bright Lines Project.'
The Bright Lines Project (BLP) is housed at Public Citizen, a nonprofit consumer advocacy organization that champions the public interest in the halls of power.
Public Citizen funds and staffs the project, but it operates as a consensus project involving a diverse coalition of nonprofit leaders, organizations, and tax law experts.
The Twitter handle for the 'Bright Lines Project' is @BrightLinesProj, and the handle for Public Citizen is Public_Citizen.
Brad and Emily discuss Senator Elizabeth Warren's 'Tax Filing Simplification Act of 2019,' as well as why it is important, and lawful, for Congress to obtain Trump's Tax Returns.
Brad writes a column every Sunday on the 2020 Presidential race for 'The Hill.' He's on the National Journal's panel of political insiders and is a national political analyst for WGN TV and Radio in Chicago.
