What the Supreme Court Vacancy Means for Young People
Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
Today's guest hosts are Brent J. Cohen and Charlotte Hancock, Executive Director and Communications Director for Generation Progress.
As many Americans remember, following the death of Justice Antonin Scalia in February of 2016, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refused to even begin the confirmation process of President Obama’s chosen nominee for the vacant Supreme Court seat, saying that the nomination would take place too close to an election.
Now, with Donald Trump in the Oval Office—that pretense is gone. Many Senate Republicans who have stated on the record that they would refuse to confirm a nominee in 2020 have already backtracked on their earlier statements. And on Saturday, Donald Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to the open seat, who holds extremely conservative views on health care, reproductive rights, and more.
One thing that’s different from what happened in 2016 is that now the election is not just approaching—it is already underway. Many people have already cast their ballots through early voting or mail-in voting. The voters deserve a say in who makes this next Supreme Court appointment.
During the show, Brent and Charlotte focus on what exactly is at stake with the Supreme Court vacancy—with a particular focus on the Affordable Care Act and reproductive rights.
To discuss these topics and more, they are joined by Renee Bracey Sherman, Executive Director of Abortion Stories, and Juan Sarmiento, Media Manager for Young Invincibles.

3. THE ATLANTIC: "Ex-Trump aides say the president regularly mocks his evangelical supporters behind their backs"

The stint was the second White House appointment for Mr. Vela, who served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Advisor on Hispanic Affairs for Vice President Al Gore. Mr. Vela holds the distinction of being the first Hispanic American and gay American to serve twice in a senior executive role in the White House.
Leslie and Moe preview tonight's presidential debate, the first between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. They analyze:
1. Whether Trump can avoid the sitting-president first-debate slump
2. Whether Biden comes across competently

Friday Sep 25, 2020
First, Leslie gives her take on the latest news in her 'Ripped from the Headlines' segment.
Then, she's joined by the three co-authors of," How Millennials Can Lead Us Out of the Mess We're In: A Jew, a Muslim, and a Christian Share Leadership Lessons from the Life of Moses."
The three co-authors are Rabbi Mordecai Schreiber, Dr. Iqbal J. Unus, and Reverend Ian Case Punnett. They came together because they felt during troubled times, millions have been inspired by the stories and spiritual lessons of the selfless leadership of Moses. In a world increasingly affected by political, social, and racial imbalance, they feel we need strong, innovative leaders who have not forgotten or ignored these valuable lessons.
Written in an easy and accessible style, their book is meant for sincerely spiritual but church-resistant Bible readers as well as those who are familiar with the Moses narrative. The book attempts to synthesize the religious views of Judaism, Islam, and Christianity into one unified, harmonious voice singing a single hymn.
In the 1960s, clergy like Dr. King revolutionized civil rights in America. The authors offer a unified clergy view of the three faiths as a living model for bringing the world together and making “justice for all” a reality rather than a slogan.
Additionally, the co-authors feels that the new peace initiatives in the Middle East fall short of solving the main problem, namely, Palestinian statehood. They see the book as being able to move the needle on this issue.
The book, "How Millennials Can Lead Us Out of the Mess We're In," will be released on October 20th and is available for pre-order now at Amazon.com in both Hardcover or Kindle Edition.

Young People Are Stepping Up As Poll Workers
Thursday Sep 17, 2020
Thursday Sep 17, 2020
Today's guest hosts are Edwith Theogene and Charlotte Hancock, Organizing Director and Communications Director for Generation Progress.
During today's episode, they discuss how the upcoming 2020 election will look a little different than elections in years past given the additional challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic—for example, some states have expanded vote by mail options, some have made the decision to close certain in-person polling places, and many people who have served as poll workers in recent elections (these workers are often older and retired) may not feel safe spending the day at an in-person polling place this year.
Even though it’s not always easy to get up-to-date information on voting right now, it’s critical that each person who intends to vote this November makes a plan *now* to do so. Whether that is casting an early ballot in-person—which many states now allow, requesting a mail-in ballot and pledging to return it as soon as possible, or choosing to vote in-person on Election Day, the most important thing is that you know how you’re voting and make sure you have taken all the necessary steps to make that happen.
To talk with Edwith and Charlotte more about the upcoming election, and how young people can get involved as voters and volunteers, they’re joined by two guests from the Campus Vote Project. They are Ciarra Malone, the Georgia State Coordinator and Rachel Clay, the Southeast Regional Coordinator.
You can find out more about the Campus Vote Project by visiting their website at CampusVoteProject.org, or following them on Twitter, where their handle is @CampusVote.
The website for "Generation Progress" is www.GenProgress.org and their Twitter Handle is @GenProgress. Edwith Theogene's Twitter handle is @WhoIsEdwith and Charlotte Hancock's handle is @CharlatAnne.
